The University of Rochester Medical Center Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation in Rochester, New York offers a 1 year postgraduate fellowship in Orthopaedic Surgery for PAs and NPs.

The program will include 2 APP fellows per year.  Graduate to successfully complete the fellowship will receive a certificate of completion from URMC.

Fellows will be considered full-time employees of URMC and will work alongside physician orthopaedic surgery residents as well as department physicians and APPs.  Training will include clinical and didactic sessions with exposure to various subspecialties of orthopaedic surgery.  The goal of the program is to provide an intensive clinical and didactic program which will prepare NPs and PAs to meet the needs of culturally diverse and clinically complex patients that are typical of the orthopaedic department.

The University of Rochester Medical Center serves over 100,000 patients annually from the greater Rochester, New York area.  The NP/PA fellow will work with faculty with a wide variety of expertise in orthopaedics.  Fellows will be on the cutting edge of healthcare delivery as they train to work within the University of Rochester Medical Center Department of Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation.

Program Outline

  1. Completion of an AMA approved Physician Assistant program
  2. Active New York State Physician Assistant licensure in good standing

  2. Active New York State licensure as Registered Nurse and Nurse Practitioner in good standing
  3. Current national certification as a Nurse Practitioner (upon start of program)
