Program Description and History

Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center is the areas level I trauma center, transplant and regional referral center offering a breadth of complex surgical and medical cases and the experience of a lifetime during this post graduate training program. The acute care fellowship tracks are 12 months in length and include: Medical Critical Care, Trauma/Surgical Critical Care, Hospitalist, Emergency Medicine, CT Surgery, Pediatric Inpatient, Hepatobiliary Surgery and Palliative Care. Weekly structured didactic curriculum in each fellowship track

Training in the simulation center

Direct supervision of a wide array of practice-specific procedures

Access to system-wide conferences, learning sessions and grand rounds discussions

Opportunity to collaborate in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care

Acute Care Fellows

Standardized three-month critical care didactic curriculum, additional 9 month specialty curriculum

Off service rotation vary per specialty

ICU rotations

Fellowship QI project with poster/podium presentation

Interviews to be performed in May and November. Offer letters to be sent in June and December. Confirmation of acceptance by the applicant 1 week after offer letter is sent to the candidate


Selection Criteria

Completion of master’s level graduate degree is required prior to the start of the fellowship program (You may apply prior to graduation.) Must have a national board certification as a PA and be eligible for licensure as a PA in North Carolina. The PA should be highly motivated, dedicated, demonstrate stress management skills, poise and confidence, possess a passion of the profession, be able to adapt to an ever changing environment, and be able to work within a multi-professional team.
