Program Description

The Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH) Emergency Medicine PA Residency Program is a 18-month postgraduate training program designed to train PA’s and NP’s in the skills and knowledge required to evaluate and treat the full spectrum of patients seen in an emergency department.  The program consists of a variety of emergency department rotations, along with several different off-service rotations and a significant didactic component.

The didactic curriculum is based upon the American Board of Emergency Medicine’s Core Content of EM education.  Residents will attend 5 hours of weekly didactic conference, along with journal clubs, simulation lab sessions, cadaver lab, and grand round lectures.

The clinical experience will involve exposure to a variety of different ED settings, along with numerous off-service rotations, including:

  • Yale ED (York Street Campus): 32 weeks
  • Yale ED (Saint Raphael Campus): 4 weeks
  • Shoreline ED: 3 weeks
  • Pediatric EM (Yale/Bridgeport): 10 weeks
  • Anesthesia: 3 weeks
  • Medical ICU: 6 weeks
  • Orthopedics: 2 weeks
  • Trauma: 2 weeks
  • Ultrasound/radiology: 2 weeks
  • Simulation: 4 weeks
  • Ophthalmology: 1 week
  • EMS: 1 week
