Our department offers the opportunity for a new Physician Assistant graduate to obtain Emergency Department experience at the busiest single site Emergency Department in the United States. EM Fellows will learn how to rapidly evaluate emergency and non-emergent patients. The academic program is a comprehensive 12 month clinical and didactic curriculum including:

  • Orientation Phase- An intensive three month introduction to both adult and pediatric Emergency Medicine. Clinical time will include rotations in adult and pediatric medicine with an emphasis on developing basic skills such as electrocardiography, radiology, documentation and the basic evaluation and management of common ED presentations. Weekly academic time will be spent learning basic skills such as slit lamp use, laceration repair, splinting and anesthetic blocks.
  • Clinical Internship – During this phase the Fellow will rotate through the different care areas on the regular mid PA schedule with supervision from the entire ED medical staff. Clinical emphasis will be expanding the resident’s clinical skills to more complex procedures and case management. Protected academic time will occur weekly and will mirror the standard Emergency Medicine residency curriculum.

The program will run from October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018. We expect to interview appropriate candidates in the winter of 2017 with final selection of candidates in the spring of 2017. PAs accepted to the program will have a competitive financial and benefit package.
