Program Description and History

Carolinas Medical Center and Levine Cancer Institute are the areas level I trauma center, transplant and regional referral center offering a breadth of complex surgical and medical cases and the experience of a lifetime during this 12 Month Fellowship program. Carolinas HealthCare System has expanded the Behavioral Health service line with the creation of our new state of the art facility offering comprehensive mental health services to the region. Curriculum

  • Weekly structured didactic curriculum in each fellowship track
  • Direct supervision of a wide array of practice-specific procedures, Simulation experiences
  • Access to system-wide conferences, learning sessions and grand rounds discussions
  • Opportunity to collaborate in a multidisciplinary approach to patient care
  • Fellowship specific grand rounds
  • QI project with poster/podium presentation
  • Cardiology, Oncology, Pulmonology and Urology participate in a standardized three-month critical care didactic curriculum, additional 9-12 month specialty curriculum
  • Off service rotation variable per specialty

Application Components

  • Completed application by posted deadline
  • Curriculum Vitae, official transcripts, copy of BLS/ACLS/PALS cards, copies of certifications and licenses once received Statement of interest in the postgraduate training specialty chosen (max length 1 page)
  • 3 letters of recommendation
  • Recent photograph

Timetable

Interviews to be performed approximately 5-6 weeks after application deadline. Offer letters to be sent approximately 2 months after application deadline. Confirmation of acceptance by the applicant approximately 10 weeks after application deadline.

Selection Criteria

Completion of master’s level graduate degree is required prior to the start of the fellowship program (You may apply prior to graduation.) Must have a national board certification as a NP or PA and be eligible for licensure as a PA or NP in North Carolina. The NP or PA should be highly motivated, dedicated, demonstrate stress management skills, poise and confidence, possess a passion of the profession, be able to adapt to an ever changing environment, and be able to work within a multi-professional team.
