The CEP America Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant (EMPA) Fellowship at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center is designed to expand your knowledge and refine your skills in the practice of emergency medicine by building on a foundation of primary care through the structured education of NCCPA certified Physician Assistants in the specialty of Emergency Medicine.
CEP America’s EMPA Fellowship was founded in 2009 at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, a 465-bed, state-of-the-art teaching facility based in Colton, California. The hospital is certified as a level II trauma center and features a burn center. Emergency providers at Arrowhead care for 400 patients daily with a wide range of acuity levels.
Emergency medicine provides a wide range of case diversity and the opportunity to have immediate impact on patients’ health, as well as a fast-paced, collaborative environment in which teamwork is critical. Working in a crisis-driven environment can be challenging for new Physician Assistant (PA) graduates and/or for PAs who are accustomed to working in an appointment-based practice. At ARMC, CEP America offers a unique Fellowship program designed to expand the PA’s knowledge of the discipline of emergency medicine, refine the skills required for quality emergency care, and prepare for this very rewarding career. The program goals include:
Fellows receive hands-on clinical training, mentorship; and weekly didactic classroom instruction founded in a structured, pedagogical curriculum. EMPA Fellows are closely supervised by a team of NCCPA certified Physician Assistants as well as Board-Certified Emergency Physicians. Fellows rotate through other hospital-based specialties such as:
They also enjoy 3 weeks of paid time off.
The EMPA Fellowship includes 4 hours each week of dedicated formal didactic training and discussion with encouraged feedback and interaction from all Fellows. This portion of the training includes:
• Procedure workshops
• Cool case presentation
• Morbidity and Mortality Conference (M&M)
• Grand Round Conference
Upon acceptable completion of all requirements of the EMPA Fellowship at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, the graduate will be awarded a certificate of completion. The graduate will also receive a minimum of 200 Category 1 CME.
